As Far As Australia Is Concerned

...is obviously not very far.

Can you believe this shit?

So in the end it was Anne in the role of Jennifer Hudson, very clearly the second best performer, who was sent packing early. The difference, of course, being that Jennifer was a bit miffed by the whole affair when it happened to her, while Anne morphed into a televangelist. She was excellent at that too!

Seriously, the woman is a master class in poise. She's also quite possibly the most technically proficient and soulful singer Australian Idol has ever seen.

Although I very briefly felt like cuddling a toaster in the bath, I can't say I'm terribly surprised. We were just never, ever going to see two divas up against each other in the final.

Yet it's unfathomable that the only two people yet to receive a Bottom Two placing are Lee and Kate. Could these be our finalists?

No fucking way.

Tonight's result makes me even more resolute to make this happen in three weeks' time:

This is a matter of supreme import to the future of humanity. Please assist.

While I'm surprised to see Anne go this early, particularly ahead of the one-trick pony, I can't say I'm sorry to see her go. Her performances over the past couple of weeks, in particular, have been seriously blighted by what Mark Holden, rather generously, referred to as "ornamentation".

Now I thought that ornamentation was a bit like accessorising; providing a bit of sparkle to give a lift to the ensemble. Anne's most recent performances have been more akin to wearing nothing but lots of jewellery and a handbag (now there's a mental image for you). The vocal gymnastics totally overwhelmed the melody so that it might as well have not been there at all.

Unfortunately, this is what generally passes as good singing in these post-Destiny's Child days. For God's sake, hit a note and then hold it, girl. Then I can assess whether you can sing or not.

I still think that Kate is the most technically proficient and hope that she can build on the emotion that she started to show this week and continue to loosen up a bit. Dan needs to remove that rod from his arse that seems to have made his spine totally rigid; or is it the weight of his hair. While a haircut might seem to him like selling out, I think it's vital if he wants the sort of career that his participation on AI indicates that he wants. And he is a big risk of missing out on his rightful final 3 spot if he doesn't lose the locks. I'm sure that it's the clean-cut look that has kept Daniel Spillane in the comp despite his lacklustre early performances.

Finally, the judges need to stop pushing the Emily bandwagon and start boosting the confidence of some of the other deserving performers (i.e. the rest of them, with the exception of the technicolour twat - yes, even Daniel Spillane is starting to show why he's still there). How many times has Kate been the victim of a petty gripe from a judge that has totally outweighed the brilliance of the rest of her performance, while Emily's shortcomings are completely overlooked. The biggest difference between Mummy Idol's recent performances and those by the best of the rest is confidence - confidence gained from, I think, an often undeserved level of praise.

So on the money antman. Yes, Emily can sing but really, so can the others, even gold fish dude when he gives himself the chance. Did they not learn from the Riki-Lee experience? All they kept saying was "it's in the bag" - well clearly that's not the case until the fat lady sings as did literally happen!

And while I acknowledge Ann can certainly sing a tune, she has always bugged me and I actually think her performance Sunday was lack lustre. Kate has been accused of choosing songs too easy for her talent and I think that's exactly what Ann has been doing.

Kate and Dan top 2 is my prediction.

I'm gutted I can't watch any of this, I feel so out-of-the-loop! Keep up the good work Scotty. I'm enjoying the reviews of each 'contestant'/'bogan done good'.

Agree with Antman. While Anne was one of the best, she was unutterably boring, bookish and churchy. I think when Holden accused her of too much "ornamentation", he actually meant "augmentation", but hey, what do I know? In any case, I for one agree with him - that style of singing shits me to tears, and does nothing but repress a good melody IMO.
Kate and Emily for final two, with Faux-Punk Harding to meet an early demise, please!

Despite Emily's talent - she has a hugely powerful voice and manages to keep it under control almost all of the time - I just can't warm to someone who looks like they just stepped off the set of Mad Max 2/3 or one of the Lord of the Rings movies. (And that's at least as much a reference to her dress/makeup/hairstyling choices as her inherant appearance)

It seems censorship is rife on this blog.
A post i placed a few days ago has been removed.
It was not abusive nor off-topic.
It merely stated my opinion on the topic of discussion, yet it seems this view does not conform to those of the blog administrators, and was therefore removed.
Poor form by the admins to quash constructive debate.

That's totally bizarre, Mark. I saw your post and it was fine. I don't know why it's been removed - particularly given that some genuinely derisive pap directed at me personally remains in the comments section of other current posts on here. Hope it doesn't deter you from future posting - I'm certainly the last one to curtail online sledging!

For principle's sake I have located and hereby reinstate Mark's original comment as follows.

    Truth be told....
Anne was the most tedious, mind-numbing and dull "performer" on Idol for years.
    I should know.
She and her dreary supporters need to go away and bore each other to tears.

    May it remain this time!

Although I am intrigued, Mark, as to what qualifies you for expertise on the topic of Anne's alleged dullness.

Clearly, this is not a singing/talent contest if Lee the Friendly Punk outlasts Dan England.
