And De Winner Is...

Over the previous four seasons of American Idol, three seasons of Canadian Idol, and two series of Australian Idol that I've pathetically religiously followed, the correct and deserving winner has always managed to come through on top.

All good runs end. Just ask Roger Federer.

So Kate "De Rouge" is Australian Idol, on the strength of that wonderful performance of... Well, who could forget that spine-tingling rendition of... um...

Seriously, Kate is gorgeous, has a solid voice, is a brilliant role model for youngsters and, let's face it, it's a great story. Twice rejected by the judges at the first audition only to return a third time for the win. Good on her. In addition, the constant tears of Emily Williams are tiresomely reminiscent of a white hijab in an Indonesian court room.

But that doesn't make it right. Idol has been murdered.

Finally AI3 has been put down and out of its misery. May it rest in peace. Let's all pray though there's not a AI "sing off" ala Dancing with the B Grade Celebrities Mistaking Themselves to be Starts.

And three rowdy cheers to Scott. Much like the Hoff, he has kept us amply amused despite the poor quality of material he had to work with. Well done grasshopper.

I still believe that Bo should have won American Idol.

I was indifferent between Kate and Emily - I was just so relieved that Lee finally got voted out.

Well what can you say. Mediocrity wins yet again. (ie. The Bogans). What a crap year.

Abby better not win oz Princess. I have my cyanide pills ready.

lol.. i'm afraid that there is a rise of 'bogan' culture in Australia recently (with Reg Regan on Footy Show, Kath and Kim, and Kate DeRouge on idol)..

re austrlian princess, i wouldnt be surprised if the farm girl wins..

how i wish they had shown more of the 'raunch' culture as promoted by paris hilton in the US..

Class and potential over hype and cheap theatrics. Simple.

Why can't Australians separate the talent from the personality?

I couldn't agree more that Kate is classier, funnier, humbler, more diplomatic, better looking and exuding potential like nobody's business.

    I adore Kate.

    I dislike Emily.

However, Kate was indisputably the third best singer in this competition, and the clear second best performer.

Emily was very obviously the best on both counts.

But hey, thanks for sharing. Diversity of opinion is what makes Idol fun. Plus, being in your minority position is something I experienced in supporting Casey last year, so I know what you're going through. (The difference being, of course, that my view actually had merit, but that's just nitpicking.)

I'm sorry Scott, but Kate is FAR from attractive. She didn't even acknowledge Emily after her win. I think it was less than gracious.
    A bloody national disgrace.

Disappointing behaviour, true, but not a facial laceration.

    Love the Hanson reference.

Kate struck me as someone doing her best not to seem upherself, but who could never really pull it off.

If they could, they would stop reading this blog.

My dear Blogh8tr! Thank you for your kind words. It's a good thing Australians can't do as you say - you included!

Also, are you not aware that in pronouncing the number "8" there is a distinct "t" sound at the end? In the circumstances, you might like to revise the "spelling" of your "name" to remove that redundant penultimate letter.

Aaaaahh Headland - and so the trend of great Aussie drama continues. Remember these greats: Echo Beach, Breakers, that cop show starring the guy from Occasional Course Language ..... Where's E Street when you need it?
